Dry cat food Blue Wilderness?

Hello Everyone! As some may know, my cats, Binnie and Marble eat a half canned/half raw diet. I normally feed raw in the morning, canned in the afternoon and one of those 2 at night and leave a small handful of dry for overnight, approx. 20-30 pieces. I like to keep dry available for the times when I’m gone overnight or am out of town for business. I have ABSOLUTELY no one to come feed my cats for these times, so I leave dry for them. Plus, I’m not gone that long, no more than 2 days, so no one really needs to come feed them anyway. So to my question, I’m looking for the highest quality of the lowest quality choice, dry food. I ran across Blue Wilderness and it’s seems pretty good, but I noticed all of those MEALS behind the meat words and wondered if that’s really okay. The Blue Company worker of course, said there’s nothing wrong with the word meal. I really don’t see the need for oatmeal, potatoes, cranberries and blueberries but all of the high quality dry comes with some type of veggies/fruits so there’s really no way to get around it. But it’s not that many so I won’t complain too much.

Thanks everyone for the answers. Unfortunately, Percy, I don’t have anyone to watch or check on them. I moved out of town for my job so my family is in another state. And I don’t know my neighbors nor do I trust anyone with having a key to my home and going in to check on my animals. My cats will be alright. It’s not often that I’m gone for 2 whole days but it does happen. Thanks for the suggestion!

  1. I got a sample of Blue Wilderness, but my picky cat wouldn’t eat it, she won’t eat Wellness Core either which is another quality food. I feed her Evo, it’s first ingredients are:Turkey, Chicken Meal, Chicken, Herring Meal, Chicken Fat, Potatoes, Egg, Turkey Meal. Yes, it has some fruits and veggies too. The oatmeal and potatoes act as a binder for dry food and are better than corn or wheat.

Here’s what the Evo site says about Chicken Meal:
Chicken meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts of whole carcasses of chicken — exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails.

So, if your cat doesn’t like the Wilderness, try Evo.

  2. Blue Wilderness is not too bad for a dry food. Meal is really just dried up meat (can include some bone, tendon, etc.) that is pulverized. It’s not as good as just plain chicken, etc., but it’s better than something like by-product meal.

If your cats will eat it, I don’t think it will do any harm to use Blue Wilderness while you’re away.

    Hope this helps!

I think you mean Blue BUFFALO Wilderness. And yes – it’s a very good food. Mine eat that, Innova Evo and Petcurean! Go Natural. All are grain free and 45-50% protein.

I don’t advise, though, leaving a cat completely alone for two days. What if it gets sick shortly after you leave? By the time you get back it could be dead. Surely you know someone that could stop in at least once or twice to put fresh food out and play with the cats. If not there’s many pet sitters around that will do so for a small fee.
