My son has NEVER been an eater. In the first year he was all about the milk, crackers, apples, and bananas. He was never open, even as an infant to any type of veggie, meat, or other fruit to be in his mouth. He would get very upset. Now at two all he will eat is sometimes banana, crackers (grahm and other) and yogurt. Everyday I make other choices available to him but he won’t even consider them – not mac & cheese, any type of pasta, potato, or peanut butter. He doesn’t ever allow them into his mouth. If something hits another food and he accidently gets a taste of i.e. peanut butter he screams and wipes his mouth out. The doctor says he is at adequate weight. I don’t know how. I took the dr.’s suggestion to only put food he should eat in front of him with one thing he loves and he will get hungry. After 5 days of adequate fluids(juice and milk)and bits of food I gave in. I want to help him and believe he doesn’t know what he is missing for taste. How can I help him?
My son was the same way, he’s 4 now and solid and at the top of his height and weight for his age. My wife used to confuse him with all sorts of things. He’d be eating something and she’d throw more and more on his plate, he’d look at it and stop eating. They pretty much eat when they’re hungry and most kids seem to draw back when someone makes a big deal about anything. Just put food in front of him and hope for the best. As he grows older he’ll try different things.

dont worry about it, just realx he will outgrow it. of if you want to fight with dont give him anything he likes until he develops a new menu, if he gets hungry , probably the first time in his life, he will get everything you give him but it might be two days befreo he gets hungry enought to cooperate.

here’s what i tried with mine.If there is one food your kid will eat say yogurt or pasta or mashed banana for the first day add a small spoonful of cooked veggie/pureed fruit (whichever is app. to add) .It won’t make any diff. in taste or nutrional value but he can’t tell the diff. if he eats it then add another bit the next day gradually add a tiny bit more every day till you get to the amount of fruits/veggies he should be eating. If your son is a cheese lover sneak in some veggie like steam cooked broccoli with melted cheese. Some toddlers hate change , they like to eat and do the same routine thing everyday, thats alright like the others said as long as he is gaining weight is healthy and active .good luck

Believe it or not it is perfectly normal.I have a 2 yr old boy and he was the same way. Now he almost 3 and he is doing better not with all foods but some, just keep doing what your doing always offer different foods even if you think it is hopeless. He will do it when he is ready.

I have 3 kids ranging from 2 – 8 and each of them has gone through this. They really will eat when they are hungry and they really will grow out of it. As long as you’re not putting junk food in front of him, he will be fine. If you’re worried about nutrition, give him a daily vitamin – they come in all shapes and sizes these days, even gumballs and gummy bears. He will learn that trying new foods can be fun, but not while he’s 2 or even 3. It will come with time and until then remember that many other parents have been in your shoes. You are a good mother and he will be just fine.

Keep introducing foods to him on a small plate. Make sure he sits for meals at mealtime, and don’t let him “graze” all day. You can also ask for a referral for an evaluation, as he MAY have sensory issues and not like the texture of foods. Working with a speech/language therapist may help if he has a sensory issue.
