I know 20 is old for a cat, but the symptoms only started this week. Her hind quarters weave from side to side as she walks & she sits staring inches from a wall or cushion. She’s eating less food & drinking more water. Is there some way that I can tell if she’s in pain?
Thank you all for your honesty, help & support. I called the Vet & he said that she’d had a stroke. My best friend is now burried in the garden outside my bedroom window.
Bring her to the vet. ASAP. I think she is very close to dieing. It is sad – my dog had this sort of thing happen to her too… it came on very sudden.
She may have had a stroke or something. I would very much guess that could be the case. Poor thing
You should let her go…

I’m not a professional but my guess would be old age, she might be getting to where she doesn’t see that well, that is why she stares at walls, and arthritis is making it hard to get around. Cats get a lot of symptoms people get. You’re lucky to have had her for 20 years but visit a vet to make sure she isn’t in pain. She might need something.

I would suspect that the labored walking is an indication of pain or discomfort. Loss of appetite and staring seemingly at nothing are also not good signs. You really need to take your cat to the vet and be prepared for the worst, but always hope for the best.

Unfortunately, my cat that I’ve had since I was very young acted the same way right before Christmas. My vet told me it was either cancer or organ failure due to old age. Very sad, he kept collapsing into his water bowl. I did end up having to put him down, he just wasn’t feeling good. I know it’s hard to do, but this might be your best option, to let him go. You can always do what we did and have him cremated. Good luck!

I’m sorry…I think your cat may have had a stroke. I would take it to a vet and get it checked out. It also could be a few other things that are also mostly likely serious such as diabeties.
