Over Weight Dog-Border Collie/lab mix?

My dog needs to lose about 50 lbs. she just weight in at 99.5 way too much weight. I know the sensible answer is to cut back on her food and snacks, but is it necessary to buy a Vet prescribed food such as OM made by Purina. I have purchased a bag costing 31.00 for 20 lbs. Way to expensive but if necessary will continue to buy. Is there a cheaper “good” food out there I can start her on? Thank you.

Try Fit & Trim–I think it is by Purina, but my aunt used that and helped her Shelties trim down.

Eukanuba and Iams may also have some “diet” foods, but they are pricye too. However, I don’t think they cost as much as the vet brand.

Just because a dog food is cheaper does not mean it is not a good food. Read the label and you will see that cheaper pet food often has the same percent protien and same ingredients. Get your dog a diet food and only feed her in the morning. Cut out any table scraps, although dogs like them it is not good for them and can cause rampant weight gain. Do give treats but ones made for pooch and not to many. Make sure your dog has an oportunity for plenty of exercise.

  4. Iams has a weight control formula I have had my dog on it before. My dog is a Australian shepard/ collie mix. He is fat too. Weighs about 80 lbs I have given up though I think it’s just his natural way to be.
