Plecos leave on the waste of other fish, so it’s not like you have to feed them all the time. They are a lot garbage disposals.

  3. It depends on how old the tank is, and how much algae and fish waste is in there, because they can live on that alone. In an old tank, there’s tons to eat for them unless you clean ’till it look new, but they could live on that stuff alone, it’s just reassurance to feed them their own food.

  4. It depends on the size of the pleco. I had a small one (about 3″) live for 3 whole months (!!!) on driftwood. I had to leave on a scholarship and gave away all my fish – except this camouflaged pleco which I somehow missed. You can imagine my surprise when I came home to a half empty fishtank, full of plants and with a living pleco twice the size it was when I left. The driftwood however was half the original size.
I don’t reccomend you push your luck though. Most fish will be fine for about 10 days with no food at all if you feed them well a couple of days prior. Also make sure this doesn’t happen on a regular basis.
