I’d go for the parachute

I would rely upon my own skills to see me out of the plane safely.
I would rely upon the skills of the pilot to land the plane.
I would rely upon the skills of the mechanics who built the plane to make sure it would withstand a crash without falling apart.
And I would pray that if it is my time to die that my family know I love them.

To be absolutely honest I would probably panic and not make any rational choice or thought. I would like to say that I would have faith in God, and faith in my pilot, but the truth is I probably would not have either.

I’m a Nordic Heathen (polytheistic), so I got plenty of deities to choose from in that respect. However, we are a practical bunch. I’d hope Capt. Sully was flying that sucker. Apparently he can make an airplane “walk” on water and get everyone out safely.
I *have* thought about plane crashes quite a bit since I fly frequently. I’ve decided my best strategy is to fly first class so I can sleep all the way across the Atlantic after taking some Xanax and having a few drinks. At least then I shall die peacefully in my sleep. Sorta.

The pertinent question is: what do you put your faith in if you don’t survive the crash? Whether you survive it or not, sooner or later, you’ll have that appointment with death.

well, I don’t believe that my body is myself, and I don’t believe that death is a punishment, so I would probably just wait and see what happened next
and if I don’t find out, then I was wrong
either way, I am still dead

I put my trust in the pilot, co-pilot and, to a lesser extent, the plane. The humans exist and have (ostensibly) been well trained. They have flown many times and know what to do in such a situation.
The plane exists, and has been in the air and landed many times. It is presumably well maintained.
The humans and the plane *can* disappoint me. But imaginary friends will always disappoint.
BTW, why is it that when a plane crashes the 3 survivors say “God saved me” but nobody ever blames God for the 187 victims, or for the crash itself?

First of all, planes don’t crash when they’re 30,000 feet in the air. At that height they’re riding air currents.
As far as I’m concerned, any pilot in a crash situation had better be putting all his efforts into minimizing damage, not into praying.
I’ve never heard of a giant hand coming out of the sky to catch a plane that was about to crash.

Aviation science and pilot training!!
Do you not remember the pilots who were sacked this year for praying when things went wrong instead of trying to do what they were trained for?!!!
Same as this myth of no atheists in foxholes!! people in foxholes praying are a danger to all their fellow combatants and a liability that could lead to more deaths!!
I find it fascinating when christians claim a miracle when one person survives a crash where hundreds die!! But it does fit the way so many millions die!!!
A billion die every year from cancer, heart disease and strokes alone!!
3 million die every year from starvation, drought and the diseases caused by it.
200,000 from natural disasters!!
This god who christians credit with creating and causing everything seems to love killing more people every second than the number of people that have ever been claimed to have been saved by his miracles!!
Pilots, doctors, scientists, ambulance, fire and police personnel all save far more people than you could ever show your god has!!
