I am mentally disabled (schizoaffective disorder) and I receive $832 entitlement. Should I be proud of that?

The social security found me “mentally disabled” with problems in my brain as mental problems because I had emotional problems and couldn’t control my thoughts and wanted to commit suicide over something stupid. So should I be proud of myself why or why not? They pay me $832 a month but I can’t survive with that so I’m living with my parents. I go to the food bank every week and get tons of food for free but I want to be more successful. I received several F’s and D’s in college so I can’t go back. Why is this happening to me? I always believed in God and Jesus.

  1. It is not god that is doing this to you. Remember that everything good, and bad happens for a reason. Maybe this happened to see what you can overcome. Why don’t you go out and try to get a job. You can do anything you set your mind to disability or not. If you are not happy with how things are remember that only you can change your situation. You can start a support group for people in your situation. Anything you can think of you can do if you just try.

Receiving money from Social Security isn’t a matter of pride, rather it is a matter of support. There are quite a few people on SS funds. I’m sure that your parents appreciate the food that you bring home from the food bank, as well.

I hope that you are seeing a therapist, or at least a doctor, in addition to receiving SS benefits. If you are not, please look into that. There are usually community resources that base your rates on your income. Also, have you conseidered talking to a clergy member about your feelings about God and Jesus?

  3. I agree with Jen. As for your question, should I be proud of having pnuemonia or the measles? It is good that you can help your family financially, it’s one blessing to come out of something hard and painful to you. But I know of a man who is genuinely schizophrenic, yet is a deacon at his church and an accountant for a living. He and the rest of his family are mathematical geniuses. Find out what you’re good at and make the most of it. There are many ways to get educated besides college. Don’t give up, especially on God.
None of us can answer why this is being allowed to happen in your life. Please read all you can about your disorder and all the possible treatments for it, including nutritional and natural. Possibly a variety of methods will help you best. Take care. Buttercup

I don’t think you should be proud or ashamed, but grateful.

Are you getting treatment? Are you working hard to improve yourself? THAT is what you could be proud of. You seem to be trying to be honest with yourself.

“Why is this happening to me” is a valid philosphical question people have asked from the beginning of time. (Job in the old testiment is a good example)

My father (a preacher & counselor) recommended the book “When Bad Things Happen to Good People.”

You might want to ask “Why do bad things happen to good people?”

Keep your faith in God & keep trying to improve yourself. Sometimes the only thing we can do in life is to just keep moving in ther right direction.

  5. i am disabled at 38 due to greed from thoracic surgeons. i get 820$ a month from S.S… finished college 2 years ago with a degree in radio broadcast, a listing in professional whos’who directory..and an award for best on-air talent 2002. all due to a lying cheating surgeon–who is not alone by any means. 200,000 patients in taiwan got a partial ban on ETS.
i feel your pain. but just hang in there…God wanted us to go thru this for a reason..for me- i beleive it was to educate others about my surgery. as we were all lied to. its hard tho, had a life in front of me that was promised to be productive and beneficial.

we dont know what we are supposed to do in His eyes..but we can only follow our heart..Bless you
