If a child in africa dies every 7 minutes from simple diseases that would cost the developed world 1 dollar to cure, when millions die from hunger when more food is wasted in the USA per DAY than is actually consumed in all of AFRICA in a week, how can we claim that we are good people?
humanity is good by nature, but is easaly currupted so then it becomes evil.

In simple terms, BOTH. We are inclined to be evil and every individual usually has one nagging impulse to do evil over a life time. It could be pride, anger, etc. etc. But we also were born with a conscience to tell us when we are good or bad. Can’t fool yourself.

its all up to you. there is far too much evidence for both sides to go one way or the other. I also say both, and at the same time, neither.

i will have to side with rousseau on this. man is good, but it is large-scale society which makes him evil. i think very few americans would, if they say a starving african on the street, not give him food. people are inclined to help others when the others are close and their suffering evident. but because of the distance and all the cultural distractions (fancy gadgets, new cars, expensive clothes) man commits evil. he chooses to spend $300 (or however much it costs) on an ipod when that money would have provided hundreds of children with vaccinations against diseases. (check unicef’s website). this, i would say, is an evil act, but its not caused by man’s inherent evil, but by the structures of society (the big businesses, advertisers, politicians, religious leaders who preach only one’s own salvation matters, etc.)
