Go AK..reliable weapon, 600 bucks will get u an AK47, a couple 40 rd mags, a scope and a few hundred rounds of milsurp ammo..u already have a good B/A rifle for the long shots..scope it for better accuracy then u can reach out and touch someone, one of the 22 cals would suffice for getting some small game, a walmart 22 rifle with a 30 buck scope..some sub-sonic ammo, drop all the squirrels and rabbits u could eat..FS92 is a combat pistol..I had a few..but 9 mm or 38′s are about as small as I would want to go for lack of stopping power..u already got the pop guns..I go by this..if I had to leave my home with gun in hand to defend myself..figger 2 guns and ammo?.. the guns I decide to take would have absolute stopping power .. I frown on revolvers..an s/a’s with multiple mags hold more and quicker to reload..Enjoy the Apocalypse

For self defense a shotgun would be best for in your home. Research it. WAY more stopping power then ANY handgun, and you wont send shots into the neighbors kids room when you miss the intended target at 2 in the morning.

You’d be better off with the ought 6. You could check out the link below for a tried and true battle rifle..the M1. They aren’t as easy to get but they are a good choice. If you get a Ruger mini 14 also you would have the best of both worlds..and 30 round clips for the mini 14 to boot.

The Beretta should be fine. It passed the US Army’s tests. An AR-15 is very small and light weight if it has a collapsible stock and 3 .223 rounds take up about the same space and weigh about the same as one round of .30-06. I would go with the AR-15.

what does this have to do with survival?
survival to me = being able to keep yourself alive when you wander off track in the bush, until such time as you wander back on track in the bush..
given you only have two arms, you only really want one weapon, and certainly you wouldn’t be carrying that many weapons in any given survival situation.
92fs is a damn nice pistol. but does have the disadvantgage of being a semi (more parts to break/f*ck up) a revolver would be a more ideal survival weapon.
the ar15 is a lighter and faster handling rifle, also a more versatile calibre, and more easily silenced/supressed.
they would be my picks.

the pistol is what is most important. if some thing like NOLA happens, it’s likely u wont sling an ar15 over your shoulder in the FEMA food lines. the pistol is for when u cant have a longarm, so pretty much anytime you’re out running around town. if the 92 fits your hands and you will practice with it, it will do fine. just be sure to get plenty of mags and a good holster for it.
as for rifles the ar15 will do fine, though it is on the expensive side of things. the remington is probably a good deer rifle, but it isn’t combat proven. if you want something in a harder hitting round than .223 i’d look into an FAL, CETME, HK, or an M1a, these are all great MBRs.

The Remington 7600 is nice but,you have a 30-06 already……I would look at a AR.

Personally I’d buy a AR now, at least if any laws get passed out of congress you’ll want to get one before they go into effect. It’ll take some rather strict laws to make you unable to buy a 7600. After the AR I’d suggest one of the good FN FAL type rifles such as made by DS Arms or a AR-10 type of rifle just to have something serious in .308 Win./7.62mm NATO.
One other thing, you could get the 7600 in .308 and have a gunsmith shorten the 22″ bbl to 18″ if you really feel a need for it to be shorter.
The Beretta is a fine handgun, reasonably accurate and reliable. Any decent 9mm luger JHP load is better then most handgun loads of any caliber in non-HP form. And the differences when compared to other JHP loads are rather small in real world shootings. Besides rarely do you shoot a person once. Most training calls for two fast shots to center of mass and then you evaluate the effect/response. If the opponent is still a threat you reengage until they are out of the fight and no longer a threat. Cheaper ammo costs and lighter recoil tend to equal more practice. More practice also usually means higher skill level with said firearm. Don’t believe anyone telling you that you are under gunned with a 9mm if you know how to use it properly.

I’m assuming you’re talking about a SHTF scenario.
Anyhow, the AR15 is a good weapon system and very light weight. This comes in hand if you have to make a 10 mile hike etc. As for the Beretta is a proven weapon system but a little on the bulky side. If this firearm fits you and I say go for it. I own both the AR15 and Beretta and have no regrets.

If you want a good semi auto 30-06 get a M1 garand. They are heavy but the parts are so big that they never break. In a survival situation you don’t want to be looking for new parts. I have one and love it. I’ve used and abused it. All it needs is grease. (And of course cleaning) From what I hear the 7600 is a bit unreliable and wears out much faster than a M1.
As far as your pistol is concerned, I would get a Glock. They are much more reliable than a Beretta in my experience and they have durable, rust resistant, and simple parts. Get it in the largest caliber you can shoot accurately and comfortably.

You already have a 30 06, so go with the AR. Of the guns you mentioned, only the AR will give you semi auto speed, rifle range and high capacity.

Sounds like you already have plenty.
Here’s an old adage that I find interesting (and quite apt for the survivalist/minimalist crowd): “A handgun for the bedroom, a shotgun for the door, a 30-06 for reaching out, you don’t need any more.”
In a true survivalist situation, where you may have to be mobile, having a few, dependable guns you’re familiar with and can shoot well will serve you better than an arsenal of diverse weapons chambered in myriad calibers. In point of fact, when i thought about such a thing, I went and bought a revolver/lever-action rifle combo in .357 Magnum. I like hte idea of these guns because not only are the chambered in the same cartridge and therefore that simplifies my supply issues, neither of them have detachable magazines which can be lost/damaged. A double-action revolver, and a tube-magazine lever-action. As mentioned, those types of guns also don’t look quite as “threatening” if you’re in the FEMA line than say, an AR-15 or AK.

Here’s my opinion on a survivalist rifle…. Avoid those sinister looking “black rifles”…… All an AR15 or Ak47 type rifle is going to do is draw unwanted attention to yourself….
Consider a Ruger Mini 14…. Its more reliable than any AR, easy to clear a jamb, fail to feed or fail to fire, accepts box magazines, use cheap ammo and is accurate enough to extricate yourself from a bad social situation…..
And most of all its “polite” looking…….

The key to success with a Mini 14 is to have quality box magazines…. this will ensure reliability….
It also uses the .223 cartridges which can be purchased in bulk and is easier to transport in large amounts…. The 30-06 is to powerful for a survivalist cartridge…….
DO YOURself a favor and read this article about how this guy survived the economic collapse in Argentina about 10 years ago… His opinions on firearms are priceless….

I suggest you read “Survival Guns” by Mel Tappan.
IMO, this is far and away the best book ever written on the subject.

>>Good rifle and handgun for defensive purposes?< <
The AR-15 is designed to shoot man stopping rounds, time after time after time for hours on end, the Remington 7600 is not. One is a defensive firearm, the other is a hunting arm.
IMO the 9mm is a very poor man stopper, when compared to the .45acp
The Beretta 92 9mm would be a much better choice than a S&W .38spl
I'm just saying that IMO, it's not the best defensive handgun.
A good survival battery for one person isn't going to be the same for everyone. There are many factors that must be taken into consideration.
You should also have enough food, water and necessities on hand to last at least 6 months. You're going to feel pretty stupid if you have to go out looking for TP and get yourself shot

if your going for home defence i would say get a M1911A1 Colt .45 and load her up with hollowpoints 1 shot stopping power much better than the 9mm and it looks a hell of alot better than a beretta.

I would say the 7600 because the pump action is going to be more reliable and the sound of the pump is very scary, but a 12 gauge would really work just fine and for the pistol the Beretta is a great pistol but i would go with either a .40 or a .45.
