Six Parakeet Eggs?

Hi-My Green female keet just laid 6 eggs, over the last 8 days. This is my first experience in breeding keets. Is there any speical food I will need to buy for the keets once they hatch in 18 days. Also, can anyone give me a simple explanation about parakeet genetics, that is, dominat and recessive genes. I am curious to know what colors the baby keets may be. The Mother has yellow all over her face, and her body feathers are green. The Father has Blue Feathers, with some dark blue and white patches on his face. Can anyone tell me what colors the keets might be, or how to do a punett square to determine possible colors? Thanks everyone.

None whatsoever, the mother will feed them. Although dont expect all 6 to hatch or for that case survive long

First of all, don’t expect things to go well the first time.
Regarding food, give the birds millet and tender vegetables such as shredded carrots and spinach daily-don’t give more than what they can eat before it shrivels.
There is no simple explanation of parakeet genetics. Because of all of the mutationing and recessive gene breeding, it is difficult to determine what they will look like unless you know the color genetics behind your birds. One thing in your favor in determining colors is that your female is the normal green and will pass those genetics onto her offspring of which many will display them. The negative of this is that they sale slower than the mutations. What is in the background of your male is anyone’s guess, but I expect the dark blue to be passed on. The unknown genetics of your male can be lots of fun as you can get some very beautiful offspring.
Remember that just because genes are passed on, it doesn’t mean they will show up, especially in recessives where they have a tendency to skip generations.
I recommmend getting a copy of “Breeding Budgerigars” by Cessa Feyeraband and Dr. Matthew M. Vrieds. It has a lot of good information on parakeet genetics and breeding.
I hope this helps you and good luck with your first clutch!
