Girl Scouts are trying to learn how to be compassionate, honest, productive members of society. We do a lot of crafts, but that is to focus on motor skills, different arts of the world, and trying to help each girl see what she is good at, hobby-wise.
We stress community service, and helping our immediate neighborhoods.
The thing I focus on most is the trying of new things, the courage it takes to take on something new, and the idea that YOU are important, YOU specifically.
If you are not already a Scout, you can attend a meeting to see if you would like it, just contact your local Council office.

One of the things that makes this difficult to answer is that the GS structure is entirely different than BS (despite their similar names, they’re unrelated).

Boy Scouts advance through ranks by learning certain specific things that are the same for every BS from Alabama to Alaska.

Girl Scouts do not have ranks – they have levels that are based on grade (used to be age/grade), but one doesn’t have to progress from one to another; a girl who has never been a GS can sign up as a Senior her first year of high school. GS at its heart is a girls leadership organization; one of the ways it fosters leadership skills is by letting each troop choose how to function. Ideally, especially for older girls, the brunt of those choices are made by the girls themselves.

So, one troop may indeed choose to focus on true wilderness camping in the woods in the snow (I know some who’ve done it), while others may prefer only to have overnights in buildings but will travel to Europe together. Some decide they don’t want to do anything like that, but will do lots of small local service projects. The variations are endless.

Girl Scouts do a lot of character-building activities, volunteer work, community service, as well as the usual survival knot-tying, camping stuff. They also travel, learn new skills, learn about the environment, practice leadership skills and team/cooperation, and become productive members of society.

I was a Girl Scout leader for years.

just about the same things but on a smaller scale, like, the boys will go into the wilderness with sleeping bags and set up tents and no “official” bathroom, while the girls get a nice campground with beds off the ground in tents and next to nice bathrooms. they just like roughing the guys around a bit

was a boy scout and camped near several girl scout campgrounds (Catalina Island)

Girl scouts learn survival tactics and knot-tying and semaphors just like the boys do.

girl scouts learn the same things that boyscouts do. They earn merit badges the same way and everything.
