I am joining the army in 2 months and I would like to learn some hand to hand combat before I go to boot camp. For the past 3 months I have been working on my physical condition by doing push ups, sit ups, and running everyday. But I am worried that I will not be ready when it comes down to hand to hand combat. I do not have enough time to join a judo dojo or anything so what would you recommend. I have brought the The Ultimate guide to U.s Army survival skills and techniques and have been going over their hand to hand combat diagrams but I would like to learn more. What should I do continue with the army guide or go online and buy dvds. Any advice would be appreciated and please give me serious answers!
the US Army Combatives course is basically a light version of MMA training, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, and Muay Thai are the key styles of Combatives. Maybe find a local BJJ gym (BJJ gyms will usually have muay thai classes as well) train for a couple months to get alot of the basics down, and it will help to get you into shape for basic training.

Like the previous answerer, the U.S. Army has a hand to hand combat program that you must take as part of your training. It incorperates techniques from multiple martial arts, including Judo, BJJ, Muay Thai, and boxing. This program is designed so that a person who has had no previous martial arts training to be able to fight and defend themselves in a real life situation.
So, do not worry about learnign anything before you join.

They will teach you what you need when you get there. Your physical conditioning is far more important and you seem to be on the right track there. However well prepared you are, it will come as a shock when you start boot camp – but prepare as best you can…. run… alot and when you have done that … run some more.

Try some Combat Sambo or Krav Maga, they’re both systems used by the Russian and Israeli military.

they have there own unique system.
as long as you have a good instructor you will do fine, a good friend of mine and class mate start his army training when he had a black belt in shotokan, he has studied several styles when he was in the army, and at one point was even in charge of there hand to hand combat training.
the reason he was so good was because of his instructors and the way he training, not the style,
