Unless you are dropped into the perfect environment (grandma’s backyard garden) you probably would have a hard time finding enough growing things you are sure of being able to eat.

If you are planning something like this, you should study up big time to know which native plants are edible. Some can be deadly. Did you know that chewing one oleander leaf can literally kill you? And some plants that look like mint herbs are actually foxglove – the plant that was used to develop digitalis – a major heart medication.

Elk are my favorite animals!!! Damn wolves!!! Take a deer, nobody finds them majestic!!

Simple, eating bugs makes for good shock TV. In real life it’s easier to find edible plants, since they don’t run away or bite. I’ve taken a survivalist class.

Generally you can’t take an answer definitively because unless they have actually been in that situation, they cannot answer for certain. It’s easy to say, “I will find plants” but edible plants are not easy to find. Contrary to someone’s ignorant post, insects and other “critters” are much easier to find than edible plants. Why do you think there are no indigenous vegetarian tribes in the Amazon for example? Vegetarians always fall into that pit saying that they will just eat whatever the animals eat without realizing that most of what herbivores eat are not edible to humans. When was the last time they enjoyed a nice juicy bale of hay or a plate of thorny acacia leaves?

Besides starvation/hunger and survival instincts will probably overcome whatever moral arguments they might have when it comes to eating something, And for the teeny boppers, there is no one to think how cool a vegetarian you are if you are alone in a jungle setting anyway..

When I was still with a hospital, many young expectant mothers always say they will deliver their child naturally without medication only to scream for every known anesthetic when the real pain kicks in. .

If it was an actual life or death situation, I would eat whatever I could. As would any other sensible person.

Most vegans probably wouldn’t put themselves into that situation, but if they found themselves there, I’m sure they’d be willing to eat a few critters. Similarly, while you would probably never consider pulling a Hannibal Lecter under normal circumstances, if the chips were down, you’d eat every last bite of your dead best friend if it meant staying alive.

I’m sure that a vegan would try to find edible plants at first, but since sources of plant protein (indeed, all types of plant nutrients) in some parts of the world, they would eventually have to start eating the critters to get enough calories.

Those survivalist TV shows are made for TV, so of COURSE they’re going to be eating the gross bugs and spiders. You aren’t going to find them climbing trees to get fruit, or chowing down on the seaweed. Nobody is impressed by that. No, you have to eat something icky and weird to get anyone’s attention.

well, in a lot of unforgiving environments like the ones we live in that our bodies are not made for, it’s tough to get proper nutrition. Vegetative food is scarce, even though it can grow well in farms in the area.

A true survivalist would be studying up and preparing now for a case like this. One would know that it’s easier to eat raw vegan in the wild as long as you can identify the plants. Animals are tough to catch, and fire is tough to build. It’s that simple. In some areas though, the plant foods won’t suffice for nutrients.

In an outdoor survival crisis that involved a vast majority of the populous, it would be impossible to feed so many people in an area with animal or plant foods. Farms would no longer be able to supply large cities across the nation, and such a population density would quickly destroy all natural eco-systems in the area. So…we just have to count on oil never running out in order for us to feed ourselves. We know oil will run out soon. Keep that in mind.
