I would think that if something like an asteroid impact wiped out almost all of humanity except for those in developing countries who know nothing about modern technology this could happen… same with a drastic change in the Earth’s magnetic field that could make anything electric useless.
I ask this question based on the myth of Atlantis, where a society as advanced as ours today existed in prehistoric times, and in addition the 2002 movie The Time Machine, where humanity in the year 802701 is shown to be primitive with only archaeological traces of modern life we see today.
