Army or Air Force lifestyle in the future?

What is AFROTC like? What is Army ROTC like?
-How strenuous (physical and mental) is it?
-How difficult is it to get commissioned?
-What happens if I fail the PFT for either of these? – Non-scholarship, if that makes a difference.
-Does not being on a scholarship change any requirements for either of these?
-Are either of these, in your opinion, fun?
-Which one, in your opinion, is overall harder? – By that I mean: intervening with your schedule more, more PT or
harder activities, more requirements, more stressful, etc.

What is life like as an officer (AF/Army), in general?
-Is AF looked down upon?
-Which provides more opportunity?
-Which has a better living style?
-Are you actually out there telling people what to do, or do you sit in an office all day?
-Can you be vegetarian or vegan in the Air Force or Army?
-Anything else you can think of.

What is life like as a civil engineer officer (AF) and as an engineer officer (Army)?
-Are you ever “outside the wire” (dangerous/risky territory)?
-Are you doing “hands-on” types of things or a desk job?
-What skills do you learn, if any, apart from engineering? – things such as survival skills etc.
-How risky or dangerous is it?
-What are the living styles or bases like?
-What is your daily day like?
-Anything else you can think of.

If you join the Marines or the Air Force, after you pass boot camp, are you able to do survival training?

More extensive training in just survival, when you are in the said environment and being taught survival skills. I want to learn survival in all environments, be able to read weather and survive anywhere. I just want to know if you are able to do this, or after boot camp you must do this or that. I am drawn to the marines, but i hear the AF has the best survival training? Any experience in either branch please answer, thanks

What are your thoughts on serving your country?

I’m stuck here. I’m 25 and have never joined the military. I work on the railroad and I give my service to the USA as anyone would workng in the USA. Now my brother in law which I would rather call my brother is heading out to the air force to train under spec ops and some other behind enemy lines type stuff. I’m just confused why a bright boy would want to put his life on the line like that. There are plenty of other jobs that are just as important in the air force without placing yourself directly in harms way. I don’t know maybe it’s my age talking and I don’t have the edge I would of had when I was 18 but it just doesn’t seem smart to me now. When he gets out of the air force what is he going to do with these “survival/killing” skills when he has a family?

I don’t know I need some input from other people especially from people in the military who have done this.
