College Poll – Out of the choices provided, who would you choose to..?

This is a poll for my college class. Its very short, but I need 50+ people to answer. I know i won’t get that many here, but any amount helps because I’m working 2 shifts tomorrow AND have to study for my finals.. so I won’t have the time to go out.

If you don’t want to answer — please vote on an answer you would have chosen and I’ll just Tally em up.

Based on the information below, which person would you want help from?

Q: You are stranded in the Amazon. While walking thru the dense jungle, you come across a stranger. They offer you help, which you gladly accept. Out of the choices below, who would you accept help from?

A. A convicted murderer/bank robber.

Pro: They have a map, water and knowledge of the area. They offer to guide you back to the ranger station.
Con: You notice this person eying your valuables, you saw a WANTED poster back at the ranger station. The WANTED poster read: “Do not approach this subject. Armed and very dangerous”

B. A native

Pro: Knowledge of the area and survival skills.
Cons: You can not understand their language. You are unsure if this person is friendly or not. they are pointing a very large spear at your throat.

C. A person with a severe Bi-Polar disorder

Pro: Has supplies with them (water, food, first aid kit).
Con: This person is without their medicine. They have become very unstable and are becoming increasingly violent and suicidal. This person is carrying a knife.

Just put your answer, A, B, or C. If you’d like to include a reason, as to why you picked that person, that would be a big help. Plus, i’m a little curious. lol

Thanks

Is there a limit on the amount of knowledge one can possess?

For example: picture an aging scholar who has learned as much as he can throughout life. Will he subconsciously start permanently forgetting certain “less important” things he learned in the past (I don’t know, maybe like certain math or sciences skills, or pointless skills not needed for survival or something), in order to “make room” in his memory for the new things he’s currently learning?

Please note that senility, Alzheimers and any other elderly or memory disorders/diseases are not the answer I’m looking for. I only used seniors as examples for this question since I doubt anybody of youth would likely be wise enough, and have had enough time and energy to fill their entire memory “in-box” in under 60 years.

My 6 year old daughter is starting to get a little chubby what do I do?

I have never restricted the amount of food my daughter eats because she was always a small eater. But now she is always asking for food and I know she isn’t as active as she should be she has always been a very calm child. How do I make her understand that she needs be more active without telling her she is fat. I want to preserve her self esteem. I don’t want her to get wrapped up in the whole body image thing but I know how the world works. Any suggestions?

asteroids impact with earth?

We all understand that the reason that most astroids that enter the atmosphere do not do a large amount of damage is that they burn up due to atmosperic friction. We all also understand that the reason some astroids do reach the ground is because they are larger to start with or are composed of denser material. We have also all been told that if a very large astroid is going to impact the earth it would do no good to blow it up even if we had the ability because we would still have all the fragments impacting the earth. I say this is wrong! It would do some good due to the fact that if you can break it up before it enters the atmosphere you expose more surface area to atmospheric heating thus more burns up before impacting the ground thus less hits the earth. QUESTION why am I wrong? why would it not help the situation by breaking up the astroid so that more burns up in the atmosphere and less mass reaches the earth surface?

If an asteroid were destroyed before impact with earth why would it be ‘worse’ in smaller pieces?

Scientists say that the smaller pieces would collectively cause more damage. But if a large asteroid were destroyed, had to be destroyed (can’t deflect, months away not years from impact), before impact the very small debris would burn up before impact, the volatiles would spread away and not be part of the mass that impacts, the larger bodies would cause damage but don’t larger impacts cause more damage then smaller. Considering the depth of bigger impacts, amount of material kicked up, kinetic energy, tsunamis, antipodal upwellings, etc. All these things considered wouldn’t destroying a large asteroid be better?
