Has mankind ever killed off an entire species that was a predator, not a competitor?

I know people have killed off things like the Carolina parakeet, the dodo bird, and lots of smaller creatures.

Have they ever killed off a major predator that hunts/kills humans?

Microbes, such as bacteria, or viruses do not count. I am looking for one you can actually see with the unaided eye.

I am just curious if man has ever killed off an entire species so that he would not have to worry about it killing him. If not, I guess that kind of begs the question – why?

We certainly have killed off speicies that annoyed us or gotten in our way or we thought was trying to eat our food. Can we tolerate a threat – but not an obstacle or a competitor?

Common Magpie Survival Traits?

I need something that will help me with the Survival traits. I need it but tomorrow and I am not sure if you could answer by then. But I need something like: 1. Does your bird migrate. 2. How does the Common Magpie avoid predators. 3. Does the Common Magpie have unique hunting skills. 4. Other survival/defense traits?

Humming bird attacks?

I just looked out the window and noticed a few humming birds circulating around my garden and I fear they will attack me anytime soon. I know they are very dangerous creatures and are responsible for the deaths of millions. I have had a few years of army training but nothing has prepared me for the perils of a humming bird attack. Is there anybody with specialist survival skills out there who can advise me on what to do here?

Bird and Swine Flu – The Complete Survival Guide

My boyfriend’s cockatiel flew away yesterday. What are its chances of survival or return?

We were taking fireworks outside to put in his car, and his stepdad was bringing more out when she slipped out the door. It was very windy and she tried to turn around to land somewhere near the house, but the wind just blew her farther away and I could see she was a long ways away before I lost sight. (Her dot was gone before it headed for trees, and it’s a fairly flat landscape with shorter trees.) We looked for a long time after she was gone, but it was no use, she’d flown too far. I just want to know what are the chances. I know they have bad homing skills, I know they aren’t good at surviving in the wild. Especially not with all the booms from fireworks, and I think it was supposed to storm last night sometime, and there are a lot of hawks around here, and it’s very very hot out. ((Texas.)) So just give me a blunt answer; is there any chance she’ll come back, and if not, what are her chances of surviving? She was a nice bird, even if she didn’t like me(jealousy), and I don’t like to think of her being killed. ((My boyfriend and his mom both take the stance that birds aren’t meant to have their wings clipped or be kept cooped up in a cage all the time, and she’s only in a cage at night or when they take her to her big outdoor cage. I like birds a lot, and I’m all for that stance except for the heartache of losing the bird. If I ever get one, I’m clipping its wings.))
