The idea that human sentience and awareness somehow begins at conception is a complete falsehood, as proven by science. How can it be more moral to preserve the biological function of a small group of cells than those of fully functional, conscious, sentient individuals?

Why do people care so much for the unborn, yet give less than a crap about tens of millions of children and people who go to bed hungry, or who have no medical care and so on? Does an embryo somehow suffer more than a child, or an adult? Why don’t religious people picket and write government for more homeless shelters, welfare programs, and food for the hungry?
Shana: Depending on how far along you are, the life you are carrying is not an independant and consciouss entity. I’m not saying it’s worthless. I’m just saying a conscious, living person is more valuable than an embryo or fetus. At what exact point that line blurs and it becomes a baby, I would not hazard a guess as I am no expert on early human development.
Josef: I understand the potential argument, but it doesn’t make much sense to me. An innocent child could just as well turn out to be Adolf Hitler or Josef Stalin as it could Amadeus Mozart or Albert Einstein
Justleft: You are quite wrong. That is not even how an abortion happens. You’re about 80 years out of date. Additionally, the number of abortions is highest under religious governments. Sex education actually WORKS.
