Should people who display bumper stickers against illegals or anything considered subversive?

Should the police be able to pull citizens over for speaking out thru bumper stickers etc…?
I have bumper stickers on all my vehicles fighting against illegals.
Do we not have the right to freedom of speech with out it being subversive?
Should people who display these types of bumper stickers actually be considered extremists?

A Louisiana driver was stopped and detained for having a “Don’t Tread on Me” bumper sticker on his vehicle and warned by a police officer about the “subversive” message it sent, according to the driver’s relative.

The situation developed in the small town of Ball, La., where a receptionist at the police department told WND she knew nothing about the traffic stop, during which the “suspect” was investigated for “extremist” activities, the relative said.

A man identifying himself as a police officer from Ball called WND later to report that the town’s records of traffic stops did not include this situation. He suggested it might have involved one of several other agencies that work in the area.

It followed by only a few weeks the release of a Department of Homeland Security report, “Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment”, which prompted outrage from legislators and a campaign calling for the resignation of DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The report, which cites individuals who sport certain bumper stickers on their vehicles as suspect, was delivered to tens of thousands of local law enforcement officers across the nation.

WND is withholding the driver’s name and the relative’s name at their request
However, the situation was described on the American Vision blog.

According to the relative, it happened this way: Her brother-in-law was driving home from work through the town, which has a local reputation for enhancing its budget by ticketing speeders. He was pulled over by police officers who told him “he had a subversive survivalist bumper sticker on his car.”

“They proceeded to keep him there on the side of the road while they ran whatever they do to see if you have a record, keeping him standing by the side of the road for 30 minutes,” she told WND.

Finding no record and no reason to keep him, they warned him and eventually let him go, she said.

The company that sells the bumper sticker is The Patriot Depot, where Chief Operating Officer Jay Taylor told WND the woman had told his staff about the situation while ordering more bumper stickers.

“It’s rather shocking,” he said. “We supposedly have freedom of speech in our country.

Proclaim to everyone: “Don’t tread on me!” Get your own Gadsden Flag here!

“We joke around every now and then how our spouses will come to visit us in jail,” he continued, citing his products that say, “The Audacity of Nope,” “Taxed Enough Already,” “Born Free, Taxed to Death,” “Bring Home Our Troops: Send the Democrats” and “I’ll Keep my Guns and Money, You Keep the ‘Change’.”

“We hope people realize this is serious,” he said.

American Vision noted the “background check” that was done on the driver.

“Why? [He] had purchased and displayed a conservative ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ bumper sticker.”"

The commentator wrote, “The bumper sticker is based on the famous flag designed by American Revolution era general and statesman Christopher Gadsden. The yellow flag featured a coiled diamondback rattlesnake ready to strike, with the slogan ‘Don’t Tread on Me!’ underneath it. Benjamin Franklin helped make the rattlesnake a symbol of Americans’ reluctance to quarrel but vigilance and resolve in defense of their rights. By 1775 when Gadsden presented his flag to the commander-in-chief of the Navy, the rattlesnake was a symbol of the colonies and of their need to unite in defense of threats to their God-given and inherited rights. The flag and the bumper sticker symbolize American patriotism, the need to defend Americans’ rights, and resistance to tyranny’s threats to American liberty. Those threats included-and include-illegal taxation, profanation of Americans’ rights, and violation of the fundamental principles of American law.”

American Vision continued: “The notorious Department of Homeland Security memo, which was apparently based on the infamous Missouri State Police Report that described supporters of presidential candidates Bob Barr, Ron Paul, and Chuck Baldwin as ‘militia’-type potential extremists and potential terrorists, is not the first effort of leftist radicals to slander their political opponents as ‘extremists.’

Reactions to Katrina victims a year+ later…?

Why do people still not understand the plight of the Katrina victims? I am sorry but I have to address this as I just saw and answered another post about Katrina evacuees and how they may not deserve another FEMA extension. It makes me livid! Why don’t people understand or have the compassion for their fellow citizens? Do we forget so easily…

These are people who have no skills, no home, no income and are hundreds, if not thousands, of miles from home. They don’t have bedding, clothing, or any of the things they have accumlated over the years to preserve memories of their lives. Yes, they got another FEMA extension, but remember also, they didn’t get the FEMA benefits on time to begin with. What help did they get for that first week? Of any kind? People were starving and dying from dehydration in the streets….and FEMA wasn’t there, nor was the Red Cross. When the benefits did come, they were too late. Weeks, and months later. Not days later. So, do they deserve an extension?!? Hell yes. They deserve all we can give them to make up for the shoddy was this country and it’s citizens allowed things to go down when this all happened. FEMA money is not for vocational school…and I would resent whoever used it that way. It’s not meant for that. It’s meant for necessities….food, shelter, water, clothing, and the like…not a scholarship.
Chi Bears….do you know you live in one of the worst Earthquake Zones in the country (if you live in the Chicago area at all)? Worse than California. Why do you live here? Pretty stupid to live here don’t you think….after all, it’s a dangerous place and a disaster is bound to happen. Better move somewhere safer. Oh, exactly where is that? I would like to go there too.

How does Canada deal with citizens who rob the medical care $system by eating crap foods they know are bad?

Suppose you have Patient A and Patient B.

Patient A is diabetic because he/she has a high risk that runs in the gene pool and Patient A exercised all health recommendations and could not avoid treatment.

Patient B was born with a low risk of diabetes, but is a complete idiot. He/she eats 36 butter tarts per day and chugs down 60 ounches of coke every morning. Friends warned Patient B to eat healthier, but the person always said “I like buttertarts and I’m a coke-a-holic, what can I say?” And he/she said “THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY, I HAVE A RIGHT TO CONSUME WHAT I PLEASE.”

Now Patient A needs treatment in the next 3 weeks or may otherwise die, but the sooner the better.

Patient B, the idiot, needs treatment in less than a week or may die.

Who should be treated first? Is there a just solution to this question?

There’s a continuum where one extreme is having a Food Nazi Gestapo, and the other end of the spectrum is people have no drive to preserve the medical care system for the people who need it the most.
well lets make it PAtient B needs treatment in 2.25 weeks time, Patient A in 3 weeks.
And I think I’ve come up with the best solution of all.

1) We can’t dictate the choices people make in a democracy, but we can have “health/nutrition education” in primary and secondary schools! That should be part of the curriculum.

2) Canada can require Canadians citizens to take a 3-hour health seminar as a requirement to renew your Driver’s License. Since driving is a privilege and not a RIGHT, this would not be a violation of a person’s rights.
I NEVER eat McDonalds either.

But perhaps there should be a fruits and vegetable health restaurant that has a drive-thru and fast pre-made health foods.

If the bull really hit the fan, global depression, which would you be?

Have you been saving your money, paid the house off, bought gold? I’ll rephrase the question as it was deleted a few minutes ago. If we had a really bad depression, like the 30′s, 1/3rd of the population is out of work. You are out of work. You can’t escape it, its’ everywhere. In certain areas people are quite literally starving. Just play along for a minute, what would you honestly do: Hunker down for the long haul, if you had a weapons lair, would you become a hunter, seeker (i.e. a kind of ruthless Robin Hood taking food from the wealthy for you, your family and friends) or would you join a militia funded by wealthy people to preserve their own property knowing fully well that you may have to shoot fellow citizens scavenging for food? Would you become a hunter out in the wild forests if you knew how? Join some cooperative farm culture? Be specific- its’ just for fun.
To be honest, I do have a some “ethical baggage”(good term), I’m fairly certain cannibalism would be out of the picture,though-there could still be enough food simply a lack of proper distribution and a general tendency to horde. Survivalism has always fascinated me, due to my parents war time experiences but I’ve made almost no plans of my own. I have no family of my and don’t much care to live in such a world, particularly if its’ a shooting scenario. I wouldn’t mind hunkering down with a beautiful woman, that would certainly enhance the experience and make it somewhat bearable, however.
I was expecting some more, creative answers-common,gimme another chance.
