The foothill residents get millions of dollars in subsidies from US taxpayers for everything from fire prevention and brush removal to fire fighting to flood control and pre-flow preparation and post-flow cleanup but you never hear them turn it down and take individual responsibility for choosing to live in such high risk areas. How come they feel it’s OK for them to be given tax money but not for anyone else to get it?

Obozo: roads and, theoretically, the earth are part of the commons that we all use and, when necessary, pay for. I’m talking about a small elite group of people who couldn’t live where they live without a constant inflow of taxpayers’ dollars year after year after year…..
