How many minutes per day do I need to work on my recumbent bike to see weight loss?

I am a female in her early 30′s, 5ft. 2, 165lbs (oh no!!!) who just bought a recumbent bike. I needed something non-jarring due to some upper vertebrae degeneration I have. How many minutes per day do I need to be on this bike to see some weight loss results? My diet is the typical American diet, though I am switching to more baked foods and less sodas. Would like to start off with a solid excersise program first, then modify my diet gradually day by day. I have yo-yo’d so many times in the past, with diet pills, starving, and what not, and just want to be healthy this time. Drastic is not for me anymore, as I wish to preserve my health and not be jarring or harmful to my body. Thank you.

Is this a decent diet?

here is what i normally eat

Breakfast
- 4 slices of wholemeal bread with Home-made peanut butter and honey/sugarless fruit preserves
- a piece of fruit (an apple, orange, banana. it varies)

Lunch
- i always eat an apple before my meal, usually when i cook lunch.
- Varies, but mostly consists of lean meats, tofu, tempeh, vegetables (a rather large part of lunch is vegetables), beans…it varies alot, but but thats what i mostly eat (not all at once! different things on different days…but at every lunch, i include plenty of vegetables, moderate amounts of protein, and some carbs)
- a piece of fruit after lunch

Dinner
- a piece or two of fruit
- a bowl of instant, unsweetened oatmeal (made with water, 1 tablespoon of condensed milk/honey to taste, 5 tablespoons of oats)

Snacks are usually a piece of fruit with some of my homemade peanut butter.

i never eat out. i don’t eat junk food. and yes, i eat the same thing every night for dinner (is it okay to do that?)

Where can I find the latest info on Canine liver disease on the web?

I’m specifically looking for the lastest info on diet and supplement treatments and recipes for home-made dog food and treats.

How are these foods as far as health?

I have been changing my diet, and for the most part the huge increase in vegetables and the drop in red meat, along with exercise, seems to be working pretty well. I’ve lost 20 lbs. in 2 months.

But I want to make sure that these foods are okay, or if I could lose more weight or be healthier if I dropped them also.

Mostly its peanut butter, strawberry preserves, grape juice (light), and hot sauce.

I’m wondering if there is too much sugar and fat in peanut butter or too much sugar in preserves?

I’m also wondering if Splenda (the sugar substitute) they are using to keep the grape juice sweet even without sugar is healthy, or is it like that whole Sweet N’ Low thing with the cancer?

And is there too much sodium in hot sauce or is the benefits from the vinegar and peppers outweigh the sodium situation? Do they make a low sodium hot sauce? Does it depend on how much I use?

Thanks for any help.

Nutrition labels…ever look at the crap that’s actually in your food (not a diet lecture, so read on…)?

think of all the stupid unnecessary crap that companies add to their food to “make it taste good”, or “preserve it”.

Seriously, there’s high fructose corn syrup in everything that’s a beverage, pretty much, unless you’re drinking water.

Even then, a lot of brands add minerals “for taste”. Nestle Pure Life water, for example, has shit in it I can’t even pronounce on the label.

And I’d drink water from the purifier, but it’s still hard city water. I mean, if it makes your skin itch with a purifying thing on the showerhead, do you really wanna drink it?

And adding salt to everything, like nuts. It’s like companies picture that overweight, middle-aged guy sitting at Denny’s abusing a salt-shaker, and are like, “Salt would make these better! Everyone loves salt!” Seriously, nuts are good on their own, like dry roasted peanuts or pistacchios right out of the shell.

Just saying that if companies were so worried about our health, they should put less crap in their products.
I mean, we have a choice, definitely. But are you going to go without your favorite treats for the rest of your life? Do you have time to go around and pick stuff up and see if it’s “healthy” enough for you to eat? Of course you don’t. You don’t have the time because you work and wrangle your kids around and do other stressful everyday crap. Plus, produce does not last forever and not a whole lot of people can visit the store every week to pick up new produce. I just think companies should nix the unnecessary crap. People will still eat their products, probably buy more of them without the added crap, and thank them for it in the end. Am I right?
