Is natural selection for humans not occuring?

Natural selection is basically “Survival of the fittest”. It is an important force for evolution… But, I observe that in the modern world, almost anybody can survive to reproduce. With the help of donations and ware fare, the most useless people could reproduce at an devasting rate. The “scum” of society, with unfavorable traits will reproduce. Which is “unnatural” in my opinion; they would die in true selection, if people where not so “humane”. Useless people will often reproduce at a much higher rate than those with favortable traits (those who are intelligent, skilled, or physically strong), hence the stereotype of the Redneck with 10 kids living off ware fare. It seems as if low class people are reproducing faster than higher class folks. Are we evolving backwards? Are the skilled overpopulated, and diluted by the unskilled?

I think donations to the poor are only fueling the fire, giving them the opertunity to reproduce. Why not just let them DIE!? When you donate, you are only wasting your money on some worthless unskilled failure. One whom will DIE in “true” nature. If i ran the world, I will only allow those who are extremely intelligent and do very well in school, those who have some useful skill, and those who are physically strong to reproduce. That ways the human race will be more powerful, and evolving “forwards” at an fast rate.

I am not an scientist of any sort. In fact I’m still a freshman at high school.

What are the 3 most important discoveries/inventions?

I was wondering if there is a general consensus world wide about which inventions and or discoveries have had the MOST favorable impact on human life from it’s start (I don’t care what you believe as far as evolution -vs- creationism) to the present day. Looking at all aspects, here are my choices, in chronological order. 1. Fire, the ability to make at will and control. I think this opened up countless options for humans, from cooking food to seeing at night, defense against animals, etc. 2. Alphabet/writing. All the knowledge gained by the previous generation would be useless without a way to pass on and preserve long term. Not just English but all writing forms (cuneiform, hieroglyphics,Cryillic) If you are reading this now give thanks to the Phoenicians. 3. Electricity. Honestly, just how f**ked would the entire world be without it, from what you are doing on the computer now to heating your house. I know I left out a lot, but I was going after the most far ranging choices. What do you think?

Are dogs like parasites ?

There aggressiveness and many of there survival skills are bred out, not they almost need us humans to live, their forced evolution from wolves has definetly reduced their ability to fight. so are they parasitic since they can only survive with humans?
i meant to say “now they need humans to survive” and not “not they need”

Did morals exist before gods were fevered looks in drunken goatherds eyes?

Morals are a direct result of cooperative behavior and soical evolution. Not to hard to figure out. Take two “godless” societies–one has no rules against murder, rape, robbery, arson–the others, through learning that social cooperation has survival value do. In the first society how likely is it that the man of the house will go out to the fields or into the woods to hunt–knowing there is a fairly good chance that when he comes back his children will be murdered, possessions stolen, wife raped, and house burned. In other words how likely is it that a society like that is simple going to be able to eat. The second society of course will flourish.
Of course then-as land becomes worth something–some fellow that realizes flood season comes at the same time every year–tells the boss man the thunder god has spoken to him. Because he can deliver–and tell the people when to plant–eveyone assumes the god is real–temple gets built–priesthood passed from father to son–eventually to be politcally correct–the rules of the town are written into religous law.
Thus in my estimation morals developed as a survival skill thousands of years before the hebrews ever thought about copying persian and egyptian myths into their own mythology.

Using Reason Alone One Can Make a Case Against Darwin’s Evolution?

A friend of mine sent me this article a few days ago, I’m not trying to start a war here. Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on it.

Sorry its long :O

“Ever since Darwin wrote his “On the Origin of Species” in 1859, people have been in debate about whether his evolutionary theories hold substance. Die-hard creationists point to the Bible for answers, but here are five
other logical and rational reasons why people may not accept evolution as fact.

First, survival of the fittest or adaptation does not make sense when one looks at how modern science has utilized breeding programs. Take for example the hundreds of adaptations and breeds of dog. If history is any indicator, the dog evolved from the wolf. So early dogs had long tails, thick fur, long snouts and pointed ears. My Shih Tzu, who is somewhat of a newcomer to the dog genre (a few hundred years) and only brought to the United States within the last 100 years, has a tail which is oddly trained to curl over the back, droopy ears, a very short nose which is flat to the face, and a two-fold coat of hair which does not shed or is curly. He does not bark often and is pretty lame as far as smell and sight go. There is a reason for this, the early Chinese monks who original bred them did so with the intent to make them lap dogs to be held inside the sleeves of their garments. Thus, the no barking/no hair sheding features were encouraged and the skills of smell, sight, dexterity and running ability, were not. This tells me that evolution can be by design, rather than by nature, or created for specific purpose and not simply survival.”

So, Ethan can you explain?
@Loki, if you read the question, and checked the link, you would know im not saying any of this. Simply looking for opinions.
