What effect would comet bombardment have on the evolution of the primordial atmospheres on terrestrial Planets?

From the abundance of craters on the Moon and Mercury, we know that numerous asteroids and meteoroids struck the inner planets early in the history of our solar system. It is reasonable to suppose that numerous comets also pelted the planets 3.5 to 4.5 billion years ago. There must have been many large icy planetesimals in the Kuiper belt and Oort cloud that collided with each other, producing many large fragments, some that remain out there today. Those that lost a lot of energy during such collisions fell in towards the Sun and some peppered the inner planets with impacts. Much of the water that now exists on Earth, the water that was known to exist on Mars, and evidently the water existed for a brief time on Venus and Mercury were most likely delivered to these planets by these icy fragments.

(a) These impacts probably completely obliterated any atmosphere the planets might have had at that time.

(b) Comets are known to contain lots of organic hydrocarbons, so they probably generated thick atmospheres laden with organic polymers, much like the atmosphere of Titan.

(c) Much of the methane, ammonia and water vapor that marked the early planetary atmospheres also arrived on these fragments. Indeed, methane is broken down by ultraviolet light and hydrogen and nitrogen are released. The hydrogen usually escapes from terrestrial planets but the nitrogen remains in the atmosphere.

(d) They probably punched holes in the crusts of the planets causing natural gas trapped in the crust to be released.

(e) None of the above are likely.

I’ching Fractal Timewave Theory: what do you think? (description below- it’s not a conspiricy theory)

in 1971, the Mckenna brothers (botanists) travelled to the amazonian rainforest, and took a bunch of DMT (very powerful hallucinogen), and were contacted by the Logos (and informative, hallucinatory voice) who told them to investigate the I’ching (sacred chinese philosophical text). Upon doing so, they found out that if you apply a Mandelbrot Fractal equation to the I’ching, a timewave that depicts human evolution emerges. The apex of this timewave of human evolution is on Dec 22, 2012, which is the same date that the Mayan Calendar ends. what do you think?

if you think it’s nonsense, please include a reason why you think that, rather than just saying it’s nonsense.

Do you think there could have once been intelligent life on mars?

For example, millions of years ago before the evolution of humanity, could intelligent life have existed on mars, wiped out in some calamity? an asteroid impact or nuclear war for example?
Additionally, of course Mars has no atmosphere now and could not support life as we know it, but, is it not possible that it once had an atmosphere like Earth?

Why are Americans so lazy?

I mean you always take a pill for somthing, (like zits) and you can’t wait for your natural immune system to kick in. You dont go outside anymore, but you stay inside infront of the computer all day. And then you wonder why you are getting fat, as you walk into the McDonalds. You cant even be bothered for real food, you just grab some chips. Some of our children weigh 300 pounds, and you let them stare at the TV all day, instead of throwing them on the tread mill. You always have to have a quick fix. “I had a stressful day, so I got to go smoke some crack.” or “Maybe (Insert child name) has ADHD; lets go get some pills” or “I’m sad. Maybe i’m depressed” it’s the people who are to lazy to deal with life, and they ignore 60 million years of evolution and go get some pills. My question is this: Why can’t you Americians deal with life, and why are you so LAZY!
I mean we always say “Maybe jim has problems” when most likeley the problem lies with the parent and not the child. And pills don’t help you, they just mask symptoms. STOP BEING HYPPOCRITICIAL! (MY QUESTION REMAINS!)
I mean where I came from, you had to keep working no matter what. I mean, we wonder why we are getting fat, and then we go to BK. We wonder why all the neghiborhood shops are closing, then we go to wall mart. We wonder why natives of tourist countries hate us, then we go and boss them around on vacation. we wonder why we are so stupid, then teachers say “Oh bobby, don’t study for the test tommorow. You have to prepare for the big game.” (That happened to my kid. The teacher no longer works there, and policies have been installed. We wonder why we are running out of gas as we hop into our hummers. We need to reform our culture, by hanging up the cell phones, turning off the iPods and TV’s, and acctually going outside to play with other hyppocrites. We need to get rid of the hummer and get a voltswagen. My question is this: (It has been refined) Why are you Americians so lazy that you let our culture fall apart.
Oh and by the way, we don’t watch TV in our house. We go outside to see first hand the problems of our culture.
AND I HAVE A POINT! SEE YOU ARE ALREADY BEING HYPPOCRITICIAL!
Just turn around and face the facts.
And if you americians are not so lazy, how come there are services to get food delivered, laundry done, house cleaned, TV, tivo, hi-speed internet, ect. I would like that explained if you were not lazy.
When I started making parts for missiles in the 1970′s I was proud of myself. I was working hard. Look how many more missiles we would of had! We have to look at our culture and think. Really think. The soviets may be gone, but I still hold some of their beleifs. Like working hard.
I lived in the USSR until I was twenty then I left. We worked hard there and we were told that we should work for ourself’s and not let medicines or other stuff do our own work. I only take medicine if I have to.

Description:
Commonly viewed solely as agents of destruction, asteroid and comet impact events can also have a beneficial influence on processes from the molecular to the evolutionary scale. On the heavily bombarded early Earth, impacts might have delivered and caused the synthesis of prebiotic compounds that eventually led to life. At the organismal and ecosystem level, impact events can provide new habitats through the shock processing of target materials and by enhancing water availability, such as within intracrater lakes. At the evolutionary level, by destroying entire groups of organisms, impacts might have been instrumental in enabling the rise of new groups, such as the dinosaurs and mammals. Here, we synthesize the emerging literature on the beneficial effects of impacts to provide a novel perspective on these extraterrestrial agents of biological change.
