Is FELIDAE good cat food? :S?

I want to feed my two kittens FELIDAE. The cat and kitten formula. But I was reading the ingredients and it seems to have alot of grains. My cats were eating the Wellness Core before I had my money troubles but now all I can afford is the FELIDAE cat and kitten food. Not the grain free FELIDAE .

Here are the ingredients:

Chicken meal, brown rice, cracked pearled barley, peas, millet, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), turkey meal, potato protein, lamb meal, egg product, natural flavor, flaxseed, ocean fish meal, potassium chloride, choline chloride, methionine, taurine, sun cured alfalfa meal, inulin (from chicory root), lecithin, sage extract, cranberries, beta carotene, rosemary extract, sunflower oil, yucca schidigera extract, dried enterococcus faecium, dried lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract, dried bacillus subtilis fermentation extract, saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation solubles, vitamin E supplement, niacin, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, zinc sulfate, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, thiamine mononitrate, vitamin A supplement, biotin, potassium iodide, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, manganous oxide, sodium selenite, vitamin D supplement, folic acid, cobalt proteinate, organic selenium, papaya, pineapple.

Is this still good food? Do you recommend it?

Thanks.

I’m still a little confused about all these dog foods….. Advice?

Currently, we are using Purina Pro-Plan Puppy for small breeds. I’ve always been told that you need to look at the first 5 ingredients to determine if its a healthy food. I also know that real meat needs to be the first ingredient listed. No “by product” or anything like that. However, I’m confused about the grains. Is there suppose to be grains or not? Some people say yes, some say no. When I’ve had foods recommended to me, I read the first 5 ingredients and there always seems to be at least one thing that I’ve been told to avoid. lol I’m so confused. I’ve spoken with people at Petsmart, I’ve talked to my vet, I’ve talked to friends, I’ve talked with my breeder….. Everyone has slightly different advice and I’m still confused. lol

Here’s the first 5 ingredients of the food I’m currently using:
-Chicken
-Corn Gluten Meal
-Brewers Rice
-Whole Grain Corn
-Animal Fat preserved with Vitamin E (this just sounds weird. lol)

If someone could please tell me if its okay. If its not, what exactly is not good for them (and why if you don’t mind elaborating)? I’m just looking for a little education. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Earth Witch. GREAT site. Thanks, I’ve never seen that one before.

I hate trusting my vet and people at Petsmart about food because I feel like they are “sponsored” by a certain brand of food, so of course their gonna chat it up. Everyone has been helpful so far. Thanks so much!

Do you think that colleges need to have better food options available for the students they serve?

I think that colleges need to have better food options available for their students in three ways. One was is to have a variety of options and using the food pyramid as a guide. By having variety, you have more grains available along with a good selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh dairy and poultry options and limit the use of fats, oils, and sweets. Another way is not having the food be a buffet style (like the Golden Corral for example) and instead a student can only has to go in line only once and tell a cafeteria worker what they would like to eat because if a student eats way too many calories in a day and they are unable to burn off the calories, they will gain weight. Finally, universities need to ask students what kind of options they would like to see available at the school so that the college cooks for what is in the students interest.
