I will NEVER forget the winter of 200 in Seward, Alaska. I had just moved up to Alaska from the lower 48 states in the middle of January. Alaska was experiencing record snow fall levels that year. So when I got there houses where cover above the door tops. To me that seemed like the Alaska that I thought it should be. People were really expressing that “OH NO! This is not normal for us even up here.” Soon, a chain of 36 avalanches shut down our only road for days on end. The main supply routes was cot off and we were isolated for a long time. It was mass hysteria! the only 2 grocery stores were absolutely bare of almost anything but junk food. Anything essential to preserve life was GONE! I started to worry but the Alaskans took it in stride. 3 days later the US Army flew food in for us and water. So I learned my lesson hard about storing food but what else might be a good idea especially in a cold weather environment? I got first aid stuff covered also.
