What type of parents did you have growing up and how does it effect your parenting skills?

IMy dad is a soldier and my mom is a hippie but most of my survival and social skills came from my dad.and my nurturing and skills as an artist came from my mom. We ate tofu and sang folk songs after we detailed the bathrooms and organized our rooms.

Cooking or Survival skills?

I have to choose activities for camp and I can’t decide. I have always wanted to learn to cook, and my mom is an amazing cook (amateur), but learning from her I feel too much pressure. However, the survival skills class sounds really fun. You learn to use trail markers, camouflage, practice building fires with just one match, and learn about edible plants. What should I choose? (just in your opinion)

Beads made from dried flowers?

When my ex-husbands mom died his step dad (my daughters grandfather) took some of the flowers from her funeral and had beads made from the petals of the dried flowers. His daughter and each of the 2 granddaughters got bracelets made from them. They are beautiful. Then this summer my daughter and her aunt went hunting for four leaf clovers(my daughter and her aunt are both 12 her mom is the one who died) and found a bunch Grandpa dried them out and had bracelets made for them again. I have asked him how they are made but he doesn’t know so my question is does anyone know how to make them? My thought was the petals were ground up in maybe a food processor then worked into polymer clay and baked to harden. Has anyone ever done this before? Please let me know thanks!! I just think this is a special way to preserve memories and I would love to be able to do it myself.

What can I do about my parents’ messy house?

I am 28 and my parents are in their early 60′s. They asked for help in cleaning it last week, I went over and spent hours cleaning, only to stop by yesterday and see that it was horrible again.Smelly dishes in the sink, food crumbs all over the kitchen, papers everywhere, and they have a dog who pees constantly and poops occasionally in the house. No one is allowed to discipline the dog, or crate him. The house was like this when I was living home and it never bothered me, but now I can’t stand it. My dad wont clean it, he says thats”womens work” and my mom just isint a fussy housekeeper. They will not accept outside help. I will not call social services as we live in a town where everyone knows everyones business. I used to be very messy myself, but a neatnik college roommate helped me change. I do not have time to spend hours cleaning up after them. They are in good health, they just always have been messy. I cannot stand to be in their house for more than an hour now.
I forgot to mention that when I was in high school, I caught the dog starting to poop on the floor,I yelled NO and grabbed him and put him outside, and my parents grounded me for a weekend for being mean to the dog.
