Is joining the Canadian Armed Forces a good idea?

I’m 16 years old and I’ve always been interested in joining the Military since I was a young kid, unfortunately my parent’s will not approve of my decision because I am their “one and only precious little boy.”I don’t know what I want to do with my life as far as education and getting a career, if anything I’d like to pursue music. As far as my upbringing and knowledge on weaponry, combat skills, survival, etc, it is very limited. I did 8 years of Boy Scouts so I know some essential basic skills for surviving in the wild, but that’s about it. I know politics decide what happens in the Military but I’ve always been a caring, concerned, open-minded person who has always wanted to help others in need. I’m fairly intelligent and tall, I’m 6’2 and unfortunately pretty skinny but I’m sure the military would change that asap. Base Borden is only a 30 minute drive from my house also which is a plus. I’m willing to cut my hair short (its fairly long) and I’m able to take directions and listen to instructions without questioning, etc. I think I would survive in the military and I would be determined to go through all the hard, harsh training and early wake ups, etc. I’m willing to train my body psychologically, physically, and emotionally for whatever they want, and I’m willing to go over seas if I have too.

So is the Military a good career choice if I’m willing to take the challenge and possibly help the world someway or another? And be honest with me, if I want to help others should I just join the Peace Corps? I’m not afraid to go into battle, I know my life will be on the line, I’m not some stereotypical Call of Duty teenage nerd, I know there are no re-spawns, I know you can’t just customize your gun in the military, etc. I just want to fight terror and help other people in need who don’t have the wonderful privilege of living in an amazing country such as Canada, and if I figure out this is what I want to do I will be signing up as soon as I turn 18 (even though you can join the military at 16 my parent’s would not allow it, would not drive me to the base, support me, etc.)

Until The End Of The World: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack

This 1991 companion to German director Wim Wenders’s film sets a high water mark for the intelligent use of cutting-edge popular (and we’re using that term in its broadest sense) music on film, deservedly cracking onto critical lists for the best releases of that year, period. The contemplative thriller’s setting at the end of the millenium is answered by a remarkable repertory of artists including Talking Heads, Neneh Cherry, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, R.E.M., Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Patti Smith, Jane Siberry with k.d. lang, T-Bone Burnett, Daniel Lanois and U2, a de facto dream team. Nearly all these performances were unheard at the time of release, and beyond the evident marquee lustre there’s an underlying cohesion to the sense of yearning that prevails. Both Cave and U2 build powerful songs around the title theme, Elvis offers a brilliant Ray Davies cover, and the Siberry/lang classic, “Calling All Angels,” summarizes the spiritual underpinnings of this thoroughly modern, ultimately timeless classic in film music. –Sam Sutherlandn. dischi1data6 dicembre 1991supportocd audiogenerepop e rock internazionalecolonne sonorelisten 1. opening title (album version)graeme revell 1:59.99 buy tracklisten 2. sax and violins ( lp version )talking heads5:18album onlylisten 3. summer kisses, winter tears (album version)julee cruise2:37.99buy tracklisten 4. move with me (dub)neneh cherry2:57album onlylisten 5. the adversary (album version)crime & the city5:33album onlylisten 6. what’s good (album version)lou reed5:07.99buy tracklisten 7. last night sleep (album version)can3:35album onlylisten 8. fretless (album version)r.e.m.4:49.99buy tracklisten 9. days (album version)elvis costello4:49.99buy tracklisten10. claire’s theme (album version)graeme revell0:52.99buy tracklisten11. Good name or nickname for my character…?

Well the lad is probably early 20′s, a prepared survivalist, known for being a little eccentric. Enjoys classical music and preserved foods.(beef jerky, etc) He does not smoke though enjoys the smell of cigarettes and rarely drinks. He could be considered a cynic and a believer in Realpolitik.
Also what would be a good job for this kind of character?
