Can we live without oil?

Do some math. Take a city of 4 million people.
If everyone needs a pound of food per day, thats 2000 tons of food per day. Can’t move that with a horse and buggy.
Refrigerating that food. At 1 kilowatt per pound thats 4000 megawatts.

That’s just food. Then there’s power, transport, hospitals, sanitation. Wind and solar don’t have the energy densities of oil.

Desalination is a rising issue as the world looks to water. Its power-hungry but water is a necessity. Iran is smart, they’re looking to nuclear because they know the oil will run out. How about the rest of us?

What’s the healthiest way to prepare food?

Which way of cooking is healthier (doesn’t use much oil, butter, or other fat, if any at all) and will preserve the most nutrients in a food: Steaming, boiling, roasting, or microwaving?
This question refers to cooking vegetables, specifically kabocha squash.

How will Evo Morales’s expropriation of Bolivia’s natural gas, oil and mining affect the world?

“The time has come, the awaited day, a historic day in which Bolivia retakes absolute control of our natural resources,” Morales, Bolivia’s first Indian president, said in a speech from the San Alberto field operated by Petrobras in association with Repsol and Total SA.

State television aired footage of soldiers and police standing guard outside some gas installations and petroleum company offices in the eastern city of Santa Cruz, where much of the industry is based.

Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera said troops were sent to 56 locations nationwide.

“The looting by the foreign companies has ended,” Morales declared.

When will oil production reach the hubbert peak and how do we prepare for $100 barrel oil?

The experts seem in disagreement about when the world will reach the halfway point in oil production and global consumption increases in India and China are only adding to the problem. Given the dependence on petrochemicals in nearly all parts of modern infrastructure from food production, transportation, energy, manufacturing how are will the US cope with oil prices greater than $100 per barrel and how can we prepare?

Cat won’t stop licking and scratching. What can I do?

He does not have fleas. He is scrathing all the time and licking himself all the time. Is there something safe that I can give him. Someone told me to put a little cooking oil in his food. Is this safe? Please help it is driving me crazy and I am sure it is bugging the crap out of him.
