how does one start a Charity or a non profit organization?

I am a outdoorsman. I have education in business and Forestry/ Fish and wildlife. I am in Ontario and I will be either hiking or biking across Canada with my destination being Victoria. I would like to raise more awarness of how easy it can be to just life off the land. That society needs to simplify. Our laziness, greed, our desire to advance and our hunger for power and riches will ruin us as a whole. I want to show that we all can survive here on earth with nothing more than survival skills. Thats why Im going to travel without any money. Live off the land. Film everything and let people see how easy it is. I figure its a start. Who do I tell, how do I start.

Survival organization?

I am making a survival organization. I’m not giving out the name yet for it is not copyrighted, so anyone with the same idea could easily take it. The organization is made to teach people how to survive almost any situation. Membership is free (i believe), but donations are accepted. All money that we do get will be mailed to our HQ so we can decide where it goes. When we are able to make enough money then we will buy our first place. It will be open at certain times and then people can just come in read some survival books, go on the internet, and learn new skills. Once a week we will have a class set-up for people to learn skills hands-on. So after you have read this my question is what exactly do you think about this?

Tips For Kitchen Storage Organization

A kitchen is a place where you cook and prepare dishes and special foods for your subsistence and of course for the enjoyment of other people. It is essential to have properly stored and organized food storage around the kitchen for the following reasons:

You would not want ingredients to be mixed up. You want to know where to get things and where to keep them.
You would not want smells and tastes to get mixed up and spoil good food.
You would not want clutter in your kitchen and have insects and other animals living in your kitchen.

With these reasons, you would know that a good kitchen storage organization is as essential as cooking and eating your food. Here are some good ways to store your food:

For meats it is essential to keep them in the freezer especially if you do not want to use it at once. It is also good to store them in containers to keep meat parts separated and to know which ones should be used.
For fish, it is good if you treat the fish first with salt or lemon with lukewarm water. These preservatives will minimize the odor and increase its flavor.
For vegetables, not all of them need to be refrigerated. Some precut vegetables need to be stored in a cooler temperature to avoid spoiling. Newly picked vegetables need to be stored in a place of low humidity and great ventilation. This is the reason why the kitchen should always be well ventilated.
For boxed food items, it is essential to organize your cabinets. For a more decorative and fancier looking organization, glass or porcelain containers can be used to put pasta, cereals, oats and even cookies in. be sure that the containers have a tight lid with stopper preferably to ensure that the air won’t mess up with the quality of the products.
For canned goods, it is best to store them in places that children cannot reach. You should also make sure that the canned goods are stored in a good and well ventilated place so as to prevent rusting and spoiling your products.
Condiments and spices are best stored in a rack that is accessible for you anytime you want to use them. Again, ventilation is important to keep them fresh for a long time.
Utensils should always be kept in the dish drawers and electrical equipment should be out of reach for children.
Knives should have a very stable foundation and should be stored away from the reach of children.

Kitchen organization does not need any elaborate equipment to get things done. You just have to know how to make your space more efficient and be practical and practice safety precautions as well as proper food storage to lengthen the freshness of your foods and protect your children and even yourself from accidents as well as insect and small animal infestations. An organized kitchen is a fun place to be in!

The Boy Scouts of America, known for teaching young people about good citizenship and survival skills, is about to celebrate its 100th anniversary. As the venerable youth organization approaches this big birthday, however, it is preparing for its own survival test: Can it draw Hispanic children into its declining ranks? The group’s goal is to double its Hispanic membership by the time it turns 100.

“One hundred years—that’s a great [target] for us,” said Marcos Nava. Nava is director of the Boy Scouts program’s National Hispanic Initiatives Division.

The Boy Scouts of America remains the largest youth organization in the U.S. However, the club’s membership numbers have been declining steadily. Today, about 2.8 million youths belong to the group. However, that is only about half its peak membership. It reached its peak membership in 1972.

The club’s declining popularity is primarily a result of young people’s changing interests over the years. Many teenagers today are more interested in activities like watching TV and playing video games. Teens today are less interested in the activities for which the Scouts have become famous. These activities include learning to build campfires and memorizing the Scout oath.

In an effort to boost membership, the Boy Scouts organization is attempting to draw into the program more Hispanic children. These children are currently underrepresented in the organization. According to the U.S. Census, 1 in 5 children under age 18 in the U.S. is Hispanic, but only 1 in 33 Scouts is Hispanic. Drawing this growing population to the Boy Scouts could be the key to the organization’s survival.

Rick Cronk is the chairman of the World Scout Committee. Cronk was disappointed to learn that Hispanics were underrepresented in the organization. In the past, the Boy Scouts tried to reach out to Hispanic communities by translating program brochures into Spanish. This effort, Cronk realized, had proven insufficient to help the organization meet its goal of doubling its Hispanic membership by its 100th anniversary.

Cronk, a seasoned business executive, pondered the problem of Hispanic underrepresentation in the Boy Scouts program. He knew the Boy Scouts had a good product. However, much of the organization’s new target group, Hispanics, had never even heard of it. So Cronk made Hispanic outreach a main focus. He set out to “sell” Boy Scouts as if it were any other consumer product. The Boy Scouts organization hired a media and marketing company that reaches out specifically to Hispanic communities. The Boy Scouts also conducted a yearlong survey of Hispanic attitudes toward the Scouts.

“We knew very little about the Hispanic family, how they see us, what they value,” Cronk said.

Based on the results of the survey, the Boy Scouts is now adopting a new approach. Its goal is to create awareness about the organization among parents in Hispanic communities. The organization is kicking off pilot programs in six heavily Hispanic cities to test its new methods. The group is planning radio and television ads and hiring bicultural, Spanish-speaking staffers. It is also partnering with other organizations that serve Hispanics.

“We’re serious about this,” said Rob Mazzuca, Chief Scout Executive. “This is a reinventing of the Boy Scouts of America.”

The Boy Scouts organization is confident that its renewed effort will successfully reach the Hispanic group. Carlos Alcazar serves on the Boy Scouts National Scoutreach Committee. According to Alcazar, the organization’s traditional values dovetail well with those of Hispanic families. These values include respect, discipline, and community involvement.

“We either are going to figure out how to make Scouting the most exciting, [active] organization for Hispanic kids, or we’re going to be out of business,” said Cronk.
