Has mankind ever killed off an entire species that was a predator, not a competitor?

I know people have killed off things like the Carolina parakeet, the dodo bird, and lots of smaller creatures.

Have they ever killed off a major predator that hunts/kills humans?

Microbes, such as bacteria, or viruses do not count. I am looking for one you can actually see with the unaided eye.

I am just curious if man has ever killed off an entire species so that he would not have to worry about it killing him. If not, I guess that kind of begs the question – why?

We certainly have killed off speicies that annoyed us or gotten in our way or we thought was trying to eat our food. Can we tolerate a threat – but not an obstacle or a competitor?

Six Parakeet Eggs?

Hi-My Green female keet just laid 6 eggs, over the last 8 days. This is my first experience in breeding keets. Is there any speical food I will need to buy for the keets once they hatch in 18 days. Also, can anyone give me a simple explanation about parakeet genetics, that is, dominat and recessive genes. I am curious to know what colors the baby keets may be. The Mother has yellow all over her face, and her body feathers are green. The Father has Blue Feathers, with some dark blue and white patches on his face. Can anyone tell me what colors the keets might be, or how to do a punett square to determine possible colors? Thanks everyone.

How to acclamate a parakeet?

I bought a beautiful little blue and white parakeet two days ago. He isn’t singing or anything, and he just sits in the same place all day. I leave a cd on repeat all day, so he can listen to it and hopefully not get lonely. He has a few toys, as well as a millet treat and of course, food and water. He has three perches – I’ve been spending alot of time in the room where he is, and I talk to him or on the phone around him, so he hears my voice. He won’t come up to me yet, and when i bend down to get near his cage, he shuffles his feet like he is really nervous. I’m hoping everything is okay, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him used to me without freaking him out? I want to tame him.
