I accidently made too large a quantity of baby food and wanted to preserve the extra. Can I use a covered pot as a pressure canner or do I have to go buy a pressure canner?

my GF has a 19yo son they bought a home together w/$ given to them from sis of GF kid just smokes pot no job?
He does nothing around the house but because the gift from my GF sister was for him and her and they pooled the money to buy the house cash (apprx 300k) there is no more money but the house is paid for…. he does nothing she buys his food smokes everything what can i do to make her see that he needs to go — buy him out give him the cash and move on…. get the idea???? I do not live there help
Can I use a pot in place of a pan?
I have some smoked sausage I need to cook, but some of the directions involve putting a cover over for about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, I don’t have a cover for my pan, but I do for my pot. My logic says they are made from the same thing, except the pot is bigger and can hold more stuff, so it should work. Otherwise, would it be a problem?
It shouldn’t be a big deal, but if it doesn’t work i don’t want to waste it. I’m a poor college student who needs to preserve all her food. lol. Thanks!!
