My tank got ich, fin rot and some other wierd disease, i think its called swim bladder, this all happened thanks to my einstein sister who had the bright idea of unplugging my heater and filter and i didnt realize until about 2 days ( mainly because i wasnt at my house )
so before i tore down my tank the ammonia was still 0.3-4ppm and nitrite hadn’t even started, i boiled everything, including the filters so i would kill the ich and so on.
i am resetting up the tank for an oscar ( yes it is 55 gallons ), my betta has a very healthy cycled tank and my sister has 3 guppies, she was “nice” enough to let me borrow them until i get my oscar, i added 2 big rocks, 3 handfulls of gravel and 1 cup of completlty cycled goodness.
I am using the guppies to preserve the bacteria until i get my oscar ( im getting my oscar in 4 days ) and i put 2 cichlid pellets in the gravel as a food for the bacteria.
It has been a little over 24 hours since i restarted the tank, about 24 hours since i added the guppies and cycled products, someone said that it is not yet safe for an oscar which is messy, i checked ammonia and nitrite today and they were both 0ppm. the guppies are not showing any signs of NTS ( new tank syndrome ) no red gills, as a matter of fact 2 of the females are pregnant.
so the tank is already cycled, is it safe for an oscar?
