Is joining the Canadian Armed Forces a good idea?

I’m 16 years old and I’ve always been interested in joining the Military since I was a young kid, unfortunately my parent’s will not approve of my decision because I am their “one and only precious little boy.”I don’t know what I want to do with my life as far as education and getting a career, if anything I’d like to pursue music. As far as my upbringing and knowledge on weaponry, combat skills, survival, etc, it is very limited. I did 8 years of Boy Scouts so I know some essential basic skills for surviving in the wild, but that’s about it. I know politics decide what happens in the Military but I’ve always been a caring, concerned, open-minded person who has always wanted to help others in need. I’m fairly intelligent and tall, I’m 6’2 and unfortunately pretty skinny but I’m sure the military would change that asap. Base Borden is only a 30 minute drive from my house also which is a plus. I’m willing to cut my hair short (its fairly long) and I’m able to take directions and listen to instructions without questioning, etc. I think I would survive in the military and I would be determined to go through all the hard, harsh training and early wake ups, etc. I’m willing to train my body psychologically, physically, and emotionally for whatever they want, and I’m willing to go over seas if I have too.

So is the Military a good career choice if I’m willing to take the challenge and possibly help the world someway or another? And be honest with me, if I want to help others should I just join the Peace Corps? I’m not afraid to go into battle, I know my life will be on the line, I’m not some stereotypical Call of Duty teenage nerd, I know there are no re-spawns, I know you can’t just customize your gun in the military, etc. I just want to fight terror and help other people in need who don’t have the wonderful privilege of living in an amazing country such as Canada, and if I figure out this is what I want to do I will be signing up as soon as I turn 18 (even though you can join the military at 16 my parent’s would not allow it, would not drive me to the base, support me, etc.)

Where can I learn hand to hand combat that would be usefull in the army?

I am joining the army in 2 months and I would like to learn some hand to hand combat before I go to boot camp. For the past 3 months I have been working on my physical condition by doing push ups, sit ups, and running everyday. But I am worried that I will not be ready when it comes down to hand to hand combat. I do not have enough time to join a judo dojo or anything so what would you recommend. I have brought the The Ultimate guide to U.s Army survival skills and techniques and have been going over their hand to hand combat diagrams but I would like to learn more. What should I do continue with the army guide or go online and buy dvds. Any advice would be appreciated and please give me serious answers!
